Thinking Skills

Nine Thirty this morning.

This morning Room 22 took on the thinking skills challenge using our logical thinking, in groups of three we were given a problem and five objects to solve it , my problem was to look after a wounded seagull until it was well enough to be released . My group came up with a non successful idea to help our Seagull.

Listening and looking at other peoples problems really got me thinking logically but not enough for our idea to be successful I think this challenge could help me a lot in my thinking skills.

The last week or so

Week 10 has been full on busy for some of us, can you image how hard we have been working?.

It's the end of the term and a lot of our students have been very busy we have had ,production practise, volley ball training, rehearsals. The start of this week is when all of the students as well as staff members were starting to get exhausted .

Throughout this week I have been called back to the hall over and over again to position my self in a place on the stage for our performance , moving around a lot, boxes placed on my head, my mask has been braking, moving to different holding rooms and I have just had enough of all of these rehearsals it's about time we had holidays .

This week I have felt so excited but exhausted at the same time two more nights of 2011 Webzidazical production.

Go the Mighty all blacks

I am loving the rugby world cup spirit but I am so sick of seeing so many flags here and there and everywhere I see some mini flags ,medium flags and big flags covering their whole entire car but I guess it's just being supportive for their country. All I have to say about the rugby world cup this year is Go! the mighty All Blacks .

Design process

This term our topic is bigger better faster and stronger so for the previous weeks we have been focusing or identifying a need that needs to be solved which was to design some furniture for our year 7 and 8 students .

David and I have been researching on the internet looking for creative ideas for furniture. We decided to create some shelves that appared on the net,
we then drew the design on hyperstudio to get a idea what some design we could make.

First of all Through the generating process we had to modify and change the design that we had decided to use, and then tick the one we were sure about and what would be better to make .

Rugby league session

rugby league session

During this week on Wednesday 22 of June room 22 had a rugby league session on our school courts with one of the 2011 Vodafone Junior Warriors known as Sio Siua Taukeiaho.

There were 3 drills that we played which were called in and out ,zig zag and Rugby tennis. We were split into 4 teams I was in team 1. we only had 7 players so one us had to run twice which was Junior .

Our first lesson was in and out were all four teams had to run individually Zig zagging in and out of the cones placed in front, we would score a point for the first team to sit down my group won the first time.

I’m not sure what this drill was called so our second drill of the day was we had to weave through our team and then sprint back to the start to score a try.

Last drill of the day was called kick tennis, were the four teams had to combine as two teams , we had one even side of the court and so did the other team , we had to kick the ball to the other players but trying not to get out or kick the ball too short or kick it out side of the cones we had three games ‘I felt like continuing.

Rugby league can help in a way like fitness thats what I like the most about it. I can’t wait unti next time if there is a next time.

The Fonterra science Roadshow

On the 9th of June room 22 and the rest of the year 7 and 8’s walked down to Tamaki College to learn about the science at the Fonterra roadshow. The Fonterra science roadshow travels around Aotearoa teaching children about science, technology and innovation.

When we arrived we were greeted by two scientists Paul and Jane giving a presentation on fire. It was exciting because one of the scientist used thrilling things like flames, blow torches, candles and acids.

There were six themes in the exhibits which were detection, heat, communication, leavers, gears and inclined planes, sound and quirky curiosities.

In detection exhibits some if the substances were radiation, bird songs, fluorescence's, mass spectrometer and a lot more. These were about electricity, identifying and analysing. This was my favourite exhibit.

My overall higlight for the road show was having to look arpund at different exhibits and learning new things. One thing that I would change would have to be the talking 'That was the worst'.

geometry

Geometry is the study of size, shapes and position of a 2D shape or a 3D figure . Room22 have been on a mission this week drawing ,writing and creating 3D and 2D shapes .

Last week we were given a cool activity called Tanagrams it was all to do with Geometry . All we had to do was create the picture shown on the a4 paper. I liked this activity because we could use all the cut up paper to create a swan,a cat,a horse and rider, arrow,a arrow in the box and more different pictures.

This week we started a new piece of art work we had to combine circles together to create it,but I made mine squares because it was different to everyone Else's using different colours.

Taonga time

Introduction
Every Friday Team 5 syndicate has the opportunity to rotate around classes for 1 hour and a half to learn about our teachers different passions, its called Taonga time . if you are wondering what Taonga time is it means treasure or special in Maori.

There are a number of groups taken by different teachers. Some of the groups are Science,Art,Sports,Music,Team Building and Kapa Haka. Kapa Haka was the group I was chosen for, Maori is one of my passions too. In kapa haka us students prepare for powhiri’s ,welcoming people and special events . We like to have our Waiata or songs in order to perform in .

I feel that being in Kapa Haka is fun, It also gives me confidence to perform and I also can learn new songs, my favourite song would have to be Kapioioi.

creative way of introducing Miss dempster

This morning room 22 had a visitor join our classroom her name is Miss Dempster, she will be in our class for 5 weeks. Miss Dempster is a second year student from Auckland University and she is training to be a teacher.

Miss Dempster’s favourite thing to do is mow the lawns every fortnight. She hangs out with her friends cow and moose, they like to go to the Panmure markets every Sunday. Everyday, Miss Dempster plays her saxophone that scares her chimpanzee.

Miss Dempster has 5 pets, a cow ,porcupine ,elephant ,moose and daddy rat. They all live in her spare kitchen and she feeds them peanut butter sandwiches. Just recently she had to chase after her Moose in her timber gumboots.

What is creativity?.

In room 22 we have been learning about creativity .
Creativity involves thinking skills and is also a form of using your own imagination, creating something different to others or something that’s never been made before.

The task we were given was to come up with a creative idea to present our name. The resources that I used in my creation was maths equipment, teachers resources and a pair of shoes. ‘ What a challenge!’.

Values- DLO

Reflection - DLO

One of the things I was pleased about last term was My DLO. My rubric showed that I received 11 out of 16. I feel that I still need to work on giving more detail in my projects .

One thing that I need to improve in is managing my time well as my work was handed in at the last minute . The next time we are given a project I will definitely be on task.

Some of my highlights for last term were being able to stand up in front of
team 5 syndicate and start our day off with karakia (prayer) or mihimihi .
Secondly finding out that my applications were successful enough to be able to take charge of a lot of responsibilities around the school. Last term was good, this term is going to be greater.

These are my results that I was given for my DLO.

Class arrival

It was day one for Pt England students to start back at school on the 7th of February 2011. As I strolled through the school gates, I was stoked to see the new classrooms that had been built for the year 7 and 8 students to learn in.

The new part of the building known as the street was flooded with children and teachers. Beside me I could feel the breeze whispering in my ear. Not knowing what class I was in, made me more excited.

‘About time’ I said to myself. Finally, I found out who my teacher was. I was happy to hear that I was in Ms Tito’s Class again. After Mrs Nua’s announcement, I Raced to my new classroom and explored it feeling ecstatic.

I glanced around at my new classmates said to myself, ”This is going to be a great year.” I’m looking forward for what this year has to offer me .
